The crankshaft gear is the primary drive gear mounted on the front of the crankshaft. It transmits rotational power from the crankshaft to the camshaft (via the idler gear) to synchronize valve operation with piston movement, and also drives the injection pump gear to deliver fuel at the correct moment.
